1. This Week’s Quote
People of faith are people who believe in a just and
sustainable future and are willing to work for it.
- Rev.
James Deming
Comment: Jesus said, “Not every one who says to me, “Lord, Lord,’
shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my
Father who is in heaven (Matt 7:21). Doing the will of God is an
essential component of Christian faith. Those who are “in Christ” have
been transformed; they are “new creations” (2 Cor 5:17). They don’t
just have new beliefs – they have new practices. Specifically, as
Jesus prayed for God’s realm “on earth as in heaven,” Christians
should seek to reconcile all creation, working toward the “Peaceable
Kingdom” envisioned by Isaiah (11:6-9).
Their prayers for forgiveness for falling short of the “glory of
God” (Romans 3:23) will be accompanied by an earnest effort to “be
perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt 5:48). They will
not look upon the needless torture and killing of God’s creatures and
declare that it doesn’t matter. They won’t avoid videos showing what
happens to those poor animals because they don’t want to know. They
will work for justice today and for sustainability on behalf of those
who live tomorrow.
