1. Comment Regarding Vegan Organic Farming
Susan writes: I'm really glad you posted the veganorganic.net link.
There's also one in the UK: http://www.stockfreeorganic.net
On blogs, when people argue that animal manure and blood and bones
are needed for growing plants, I always refer them to the two vegan
sites.
2. A Prayer for Animals
We joyfully give thanks for this, our meal of love and peace,
For no one's child lies on our plates. None suffered for our feast.
We pray for peace on Earth for all and grace to do our part.
To God and to all life we are connected heart to heart.

3. Activist Feedback
Jessica, who leafleted with Stephanie and Colin at a Winter Jam
concert in Portland, OR on Nov. 11, writes:
Stephanie, Colin and I leafleted CVA's "Would Jesus Eat Meat Today?"
booklet as the Portland Winter Jam Christian concert let out this past
Friday night. People were overall pretty receptive, although I
personally got a little tired of hearing "Yes, he would!" (eat meat
today). The highlight of the night was a man who came over to us and
asked a few questions regarding the booklet. Thankfully, Colin was there
to answer a bible-related question. The man then thanked us and said,
"If your intent is for people to read the booklet, just know that it's
being read."

4. Essay: Following Christ and Making a Living, Part 1: Some Notes
about Corporations
Corporations are legal entities that have certain privileges and
restrictions. Most exist for business purposes, and investors find
corporations attractive in large part because of corporations’ limited
liability. Unlike partnerships, in which partners can be personally
liable for firm debts, those who invest in corporations can lose no more
than the value of their investments. If the corporation becomes
bankrupt, creditors cannot pursue the private property of shareholders
in order to collect outstanding debts. There are many reasons that
governments have allowed corporations to exist, and they include
promotion of business and facilitation of taxation. In the United
States, individual states incorporate all corporations, and in theory
states have the right to supervise a corporation or even remove a
corporation’s charter. Rarely are such things done.
A comment from the Supreme Court bench in the 1886 case Santa Clara
County v. Southern Pacific Railroad established corporations as persons
protected by the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution. As a
consequence, corporate persons enjoy the same rights under the
Constitution as human persons, except that corporations do not have
freedom of religion and do not vote. Corporations can sue for damages
and be sued, and corporations can be charged with crimes.
A distinctive feature of corporations is that they are owned by
shareholders, who can buy or trade shares of the corporations. Business
corporations are run by boards of directors who are required by law to
respect the desires of shareholders. Shareholders almost always want the
corporations they own to be dedicated to financial gain. What kind of
“person” does such a focus generate? We’ll explore this question next
week.

6. Br. Giovanni’s “The Symbiosis Experiment” Needs a Director
In Goochland, Virginia, Br. Giovanni of Dionysosherd has cared for a
herd of 140 goats who were rescued from a slaughterhouse since 2005. Br.
Giovanni is in good health, but on account of his advancing age he is
hoping to find someone who can help care for the goats. If anyone is
interesting learning more, contact Br. Giovanni at PO Box 572,
Goochland, VA 23063.
7. Harvard Divinity Student Seeking Info about Veg. Churches
The student writes:
I am currently writing a paper about the Jewish and Christian
vegetarian movements. I was wondering if you could direct me to any
church communities that practice vegetarianism. I would love to talk
to a community that practices vegetarianism together.
