This is a fantastic letter written by Susan Levin, M.S., R.D.
(Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), directed to Secretary
Tom Vilsack urging him to cancel the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
recently announced plan to purchase $40 million of chicken products for
use in school lunches and other federal food assistance programs.
Ms. Levin explains clearly why it's not in the best interest of
children to eat chicken given the high fat and cholesterol content, and
the increased risk of contamination with salmonella or campylobacter.
She also asks Mr. Vilsack to "stop using child nutrition programs as a
means for boosting agribusiness incomes."

It’s encouraging that more people and institutions have started
challenging the status quo. Agribusiness is a rotten industry that
unless consumers stop supporting, the health of people, the state of the
environment, and the lives of God’s animals will continue to be
negatively affected with devastating consequences.
