Lobsters, crabs and other
invertebrates are treated as if they didn’t feel pain when raised or
caught for food, because it is thought that they don’t perceive
pain. However, a study carried out by scientists at Queen’s
University Belfast indicates that these animals do feel pain. In
fact, Elwood and Crook, who carried out the research, “have changed
how they treat the invertebrates in their labs. They now use as few
animals as possible and keep the potential for suffering to a
minimum.”

Do lobsters and other invertebrates feel pain. New research has some
answers.
Science helps us understand the world around us to a certain
extent but we have much to learn. I think if we act with compassion,
instead of waiting for science to confirm something such as if
invertebrates feel pain, we are on the right path. In essence, we
should treat others the way we want to be treated.
