In the U.S., every time a
product containing beef is bought, a portion of the cost is a tax on
beef. What most people don’t know is that this tax on beef goes to
the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association that in turn uses this
public money to buy ads encouraging people to eat more beef and to
lobby efforts discouraging beef eating.

Big beef
It’s incredible how much power the meat industry has been given
by the government and the power it has within the government, and
therefore the power this industry has on what people eat. While this
industry might seem too powerful to ever collapse we ought to
remember that great part of their power comes from consumers who
support it by eating their products.
