In spite of public uproar, pink slime
(a meat “product” made from processed beef trimmings treated with
ammonia) is making a come back to school cafeterias in at least 7
states. Ironically, this seems to be happening in response to new
nutrition guidelines for school lunches that include more fruits and
veggies, and are therefore most expensive. Some states will buy pink
slime to offset costs.

If we want children to grow in a healthy and compassionate world
we have to contribute by also feeding our children healthy food that
doesn’t involve cruelty. When we allow foods like “pink slime” to be
fed to children, we are saying we don’t care about their health or
how their food is produced.
