Approximately 14,000 dead pigs are floating down the river in
Shanghai, China. Residents have been told nothing else except not to
worry. The government has not explained where those dead pigs came
from or why they were dumped in a river that supplies drinking water
to 23 million people.

While residents in Shanghai should, of course, be worried about
the quality of their water after the dumping of these dead pigs, it
seems that people should also ask themselves how these sentient
beings ended up dead and disposed of as if they were mere objects.
Factory farming around the world is one of the biggest polluters of
water, land and air. Being stewards of God’s Creation should drive
us to support sustainable industries. Factory farming is surely not
one of them.
