This depiction of how a typical Canadian slaughterhouse processes
cattle exemplifies slaughterhouses throughout the world, where
workers are expendable, animals are commodities and public health is
trumped by profit. “You have 35 seconds: Gut the cow without
damaging its organs, and be sure not to drop the stomach on the
floor. Do not cut yourself with the swift-moving blade; do not touch
the scalding sanitary surfaces. Then, walk in hot water to clean
your white rubber boots. Swap your knife out and start over again.
Again and again.”

At slaughterhouses God’s farmed animals are tortured and killed,
workers are abused and public health is put to risk. If nothing good
comes out of them, why should people keep supporting them with their
money every time they make a purchase of animal products? Christians
are called to expose victimization, to stand up for what is right
and most of all to reflect God’s love onto all Creation. At
slaughterhouses and factory farms exactly the opposite takes place.
