Great editorial on the New York Times supporting a more humane
system of raising egg laying hens! The article explains clearly how
egg laying hens are crammed in battery cages and applauds the
introduction of the new bill that would require labeling on all egg
cartons to specify whether the eggs are from caged, cage-free or
free-range hens. This bill would phase in over the next 15 years to 18
years requirements for larger cages (nearly doubling the space each
chicken is provided), perches, scratching areas and nesting boxes.

Any improvement of our current system of raising egg-laying hens is
definitely welcome. Although as stewards of God’s animals we would
like to see no exploitation at all of these lovely creatures, we also
acknowledge that the reduction of suffering to any extent is
beneficial while we tirelessly work toward a more compassionate,
harmonious and peaceful world.
