Mark Bittman, an Opinion columnist and the Times magazine’s food
columnist, explains why people are eating less meat. Bittman says that
although the meat industry blames the price of feed, droughts, exports,
and even the government for people's choice to eat less meat, the truth
might just be that consumers are making better and mindful choices.

There’s always hope for a better, more peaceful and compassionate
world every time that people stop and think at the time of making
choices, such as the choice of diet, that affect God’s Creation in deep
ways. Isaiah’s prophecies tell us about a world in which every creature
will leave in peace. Let’s all participate in the reconciliation of
God’s Creation!
