What Does Temple Grandin Really Think About Smithfield?

Due to the increased awareness about factory farming and its inherent cruelty, and to the countless undercover videos showing evidence of animal abuse, Smithfield Foods, the world's largest pork producer, recently produced a series of slick, whitewashed videos claiming to "take the mystery out of pork production." Smithfield enlisted Temple Grandin to be the spokesperson for these videos. However, not all is praise when she refers to gestation crates, and the beating and electric prodding that regularly goes on in these factory farms.

Although Temple Grandin is not an animal advocate, she nonetheless helps our cause by objecting to some of the cruelest procedures in factory farming such as gestation crates. It doesn’t take much to alleviate the suffering of God’s animals enslaved by the factory farming industry. As advocates for justice and peace we need to push for these changes to occur fast until hopefully one day all of God’s animals are liberated from human exploitation.
