Meat and Global Warming
Animal agriculture is devastating for the planet for it contributes
to global warming at alarming quantities. For example, just in Brazil
over 75% of methane and over half of deforestation come from livestock.
It is appalling that 55 billion animals are killed for food every year
around the world, and as a result, their raising has become
unsustainable. According to a new study by the UN Environment Programme
the quickest and most effective way to reduce the emission of greenhouse
gases is by transitioning to a plant-based diet, which would have an
immediate effect on climate change.

Christians, upon learning about the catastrophic consequences of
animal agriculture on the planet, should be the leaders in the movement
to restore the environment. We believe we have a sacred responsibility
and privilege to be good stewards of God's Creation, and thus, adopting
a plant-based diet should be imperative, aside from being a joy since it
shows compassion and love for farm animals.
