This new minimum requirement in New Zealand is a big step toward reducing the suffering of farmed animals. Most people believe that farmed animals do not suffer during the slaughter practice; however, even pre-stunning (which doesn’t occur all the time) animals can sense their fate and suffer emotionally and physically by their handling. The only effective way to reduce animal suffering is to transition to a compassionate diet: a plant-based one.
