Statistics on Animals Killed for Food
The total number of land animals killed for food in the U.S. in
2008 was down 0.6% from 2007, at 10,279 million, despite a 1%
increase in U.S. population, according to data extrapolated from the
USDA. However, the # of land animals killed for food worldwide,
according to the UN Food and Agriculture Administration, increased
1.2% comparing to a 1.2% population increase as well. Critics say
that the figure of animals killed last year does not reflect true
numbers since many countries under-report or don’t report at all.

At Last - Number of Animals Killed Drops
Over 10 billion land animals are slaughtered every year in the US
for food consumption and the figure worldwide is at least 58
billion. Never in history have we tortured and killed so many
animals in order to eat them. If these figures don't seem appalling
to us, stewards of God's Creation, then we can rest assured that we
suffer from hardness of heart.
