Smithfield to Delay Phasing-Out Gestation Crates
Due to the financial losses Smithfield Foods Inc. suffered (US$190)
this past year, the company announced that the plan to replace
"gestation stalls" for pregnant sows with roomier "group housing" by
2017 at all of its farms has been delayed. Bruce Friedrich, vice
president for policy for PETA, said: "It's not surprising that when
times get tough they jettisoned a plan that was barely a plan in the
first place."

How saddening that there's no light at the end of the tunnel for the
millions of pigs who suffer unimaginably day after day at Smithfield
Foods Inc.! It's is imperative that consumers choose to support
compassion over cruelty; and therefore, take a stand to show Smithfield
that gestational stalls create only misery to God's animals and the rest
of Creation.
