Smart Fish

Most people still regard fish as very simple beings that react mainly on instinct and feel little. However, new studies show that the nine-spined stickleback found in streams across Europe has a human-like ability to learn. Scientist from St. Andrews University found in tests that 75 percent of sticklebacks were clever enough to know from watching others that a feeder in a tank was rich in food, even though they had previously got little from it themselves.

All beings were created by God with their own instincts, desires and abilities. Fish are no exception. As children of God and stewards of God's Creation we should show compassion and mercy to fish regardless of their degree of intelligence. However, thanks to these new findings, hopefully more people will decide to leave fish aside from their diets.
