Meat Processing Plant Accused of Exploiting Disabled
A major investigation was launched last week into the care and
treatment of a group of mentally retarded men who worked for Henry's
Turkey Service, a Texas-based company. For 34 years this company had
employed dozens of mentally retarded men who worked at the West Liberty
Foods meat-processing plant in Muscatine County, Iowa, cleaning,
plucking and degutting turkeys.
The investigation focuses on the violations against the disabled and
the conditions these men were kept while living under the company's
care.
