Judge’s Rule on Poultry
A lawsuit brought by the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) and East

arguing that the USDA had misinterpreted the 50-year-old act H.R. 8308
when excluding poultry from the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act (HMSA),
was dismissed by a judge who ruled that chickens are not "livestock,"
and, as a result, are not subject to the Humane Methods of Slaughter
Act.
