Ethical Veal?

In the UK, about 0.1% of the population consumes veal; sadly, it seems the trend might increase. It is estimated that 500,000 male calves are produced as by-products of the dairy industry, of which, an estimated one- to two-thirds of them are shot as newborns while 60,000 to 70,000 travel up to 100 hours to Spain or Italy to be raised and made into veal. Outside the UK, calves are raised in veal crates, and end up usually lame and anemic. In the UK, the standards are a little it better since calves are given bedding, and iron and fiber are added to their diets. A spokeswoman for CIWF says, "We support eating British veal if the calf is reared to the highest standards,"… "There are still some issues with veal reared in this country, but it is so much better than veal reared on the continent."

Veal production shows the extent of greed of the meat industry. These calves are born for no purpose than supporting the dairy industry and to meet the veal demand for a very small portion of the population. All animals have God-given rights and instincts, and unless humanity allows these creatures to exercise them, we are not being obedient to God.
