Horses Spared in the US Face Death Abroad
More tragedy faces horses that once were legally slaughtered in the
US, which are instead being sent to Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered,
traveling hundreds more miles, often in crowded trailers, without food
or water. In U.S. slaughter plants, horses were killed by having steel
pins driven through their heads; however, in Mexico, they are disabled
by having their spinal cords severed with a knife. Animal advocates are
pushing for federal legislation that would forbid the sale and transport
of horses for human consumption, therefore banning the export market.

Horses spared in the US face death across the border
Horses, God's animals, are facing tremendous suffering due to the
quest for taste and profit. The horse-slaughter ban, which should have
been a compassionate gesture toward horses, has turned out to cause more
suffering to tens of thousands of them. Legislation is urgently needed
to get rid of this "loophole" that allows US horses to be slaughtered
abroad and to put and end to the callousness of this industry.
