Hard-To-Swallow Hooks Safe for Turtles

The fishing industry greatly affects many aquatic species besides the one(s) they pursue to catch. It is estimated that 250,000 endangered turtles, as well as thousands of sea birds, sharks and sea mammals, are accidentally caught every year by long-line fishermen, who troll the ocean with lines strung with thousands of hooks.

A new type of hook encouraged by the World Wildlife Fund conservation group (WWF) appears not to be fatal after swallowed by turtles. It's a circular-shaped hooks that allows fishing crews to more easily remove hooks from the mouths since it's wider and points toward the shaft, making it more likely that it will lodge in the lip rather than the throat or stomach.

The fishing industry has already damaged the aquatic habitats and fauna extensively by reducing the number of populations, pushing many species to the verge of extinction, and causing great pain and suffering to God's animals. Although it's very good that they are trying to lessen their impact on turtles, the destructiveness of the fishing industry is enormous. It's up the consumer to stop supporting an industry that does not accord with God's principles of compassion, mercy and peace.
