China’s New Pig Disease
A highly infectious disease known
as blue-ear pig disease (also known as porcine reproductive and
respiratory syndrome) is spreading throughout China and is already
present in 25 of this country's 33 provinces. The result has been a
rapid and high increase in pork prices and the death of an unknown
number of pigs due to the seemingly inaccurate official figures that
appear to minimize the problem.
Moreover, China has refused to send
tissue samples to testing labs outside the country, which health
experts outside China deem irresponsible. The fear of a pandemic has
driven farmers to sell their diseased or infected pigs to illegal
slaughterhouses, which could pose food safety problems.

Virus spreading alarm and pig disease in China
The way farmed animals are commonly
raised in today's society leads to overcrowding, inadequate
ventilation and stress that are key factors related to disease
outbreaks. The way we treat God's animals is bringing misery to all
Creation. The transition to a plant-based diet helps reduce the
number of farmed animals raised for food and therefore the risk of
spread of contagious diseases.
