Making Cows Burp Less
After abundant evidence was found
indicating that farmed animals contribute to 18% of global warming
gases, scientists are looking into finding the right mix of food
that would help cows burp less, and therefore emit less global
warming gases. Michael Abberton, a scientist at the UK-based
Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research, stated that
"There is a common misperception about how methane gets into the
atmosphere," ... "It is actually through belching rather than the
other end," noting that the average dairy cow belches out about 100
to 200 liters of methane each day.

Finding ways to control the
emission of global warming gases into the atmosphere while ignoring
the suffering of farmed animals, is not consistent with being good
stewards of God’s Creation. When we reduce our meat intake, or adopt
a plant-based diet, we are actively participating in the
reconciliation of God’s Creation by alleviating animal suffering and
helping restore the environment.
