PETA Suggests Tax Breaks for Vegetarians
On May 30, PETA President Ingrid
Newkirk sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate
Majority Leader Harry Reid urging the government to consider
allowing vegetarians to get a tax break.
Ms. Newkirk stated the fact that
vegetarians are responsible for fewer greenhouse-gas emissions and
other kinds of environmental degradation than meat-eaters, and
therefore should be rewarded “just as people who purchase a hybrid
vehicle enjoy a tax break.”
PETA President cited the U.N.
report that stated, “[S]cientists determined that raising animals
for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars, trucks,
and [planes] in the world combined.”
