The healing power of animals
A study carried out by the Pet Care Trust Foundation looked into
quantifying the physical & psychological effects of introducing animals
to patients in the cardiac intensive care facility at the UCLA Medical
Center. In 2005, during American Heart Association Conference in Dallas,
TC, the researchers announced the findings: the UCLA study showed that
trained Assistance Therapy dogs, visiting severely ill cardiac patients
in intensive care, lowered their stress and anxiety and their heart and
lung pressure significantly.
As the article says “The scientific “proof” that dogs, and many other
well cared for animals, interacting with children, adults and elders in
hospitals, in long term care, in schoolrooms and in homes, is a
significant benefit for the health of humans, as well as unconditional
love within and for our society”

God created animals to be our companions and helpers. The same
animals considered pets in this part of the world are seen as food in
others. Humanity, throughout time, has used and abused animals for its
own benefit. By reflecting God’s love onto all Creation our relationship
to animals can bring healing and restoration in a broken world.
