Lake Sturgeon on the verge of extinction
The lake sturgeon, one of North America's oldest and largest fish,
whose ancestors date back 400 million years could be just 150 years from
extinction according to the Committee on the Status of Endangered
Wildlife in Canada. While this committee identified 520 other wildlife
species in Canada that are also at risk of extinction, the lake sturgeon
is the one at an imminent risk. The culprits have found to be
over-fishing, pollution, and habitat loss due to dams.
