Post election Animal Welfare news
Michigan and Arizona can be added to the states in which voters chose
to support Animal Welfare proposals. Michigan voters overwhelmingly
opposed Proposal 3 (69 percent to 31 percent), a measure that would have
allowed mourning dove hunting. All 83 counties voted “No.”
In Arizona, voters approved Proposition 204 (62 percent approval with
38 percent opposing), which bans the intensive confinement of breeding
pigs and veal calves in tiny crates where the animals cannot even turn
around or stretch their limbs. Compassionate people are choosing to
protect God’s animals from human exploitation. These are some of the
successes since 1990:
• Banning cockfighting in Arizona, Missouri and Oklahoma
• Outlawing the slaughter of horses and the sale of horse meat in
California
• Restricting cruel and inhumane traps and poisons in Arizona,
California, Colorado, Massachusetts and Washington
• Prohibiting inhumane bear hunting practices in Colorado,
Massachusetts, Oregon and Washington
• Banning the use of gestation crates for breeding pigs in Florida
• Providing specialty spay/neuter license plates in Georgia
• Banning canned hunts and prohibiting future game farms in Montana
• Outlawing aerial wolf killing in Alaska

In spite of the extensive cruelty to animals, it’s joyous news every
time compassion is chosen over greed and cruelty. Humans have the
capability to alleviate suffering and protect all of God’s creation. Let
everyone chose a Christ-like life and witness God’s love for all
creatures.
