Promoting welfare-friendly farming practices
According to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization,
China has 7 billion chickens intended for use as meat, 2 billion hens
for eggs, 622 million pigs and 47 million cattle. Brazil has 5 billion
hens for eggs, 38 million pigs, and 37 million cattle. Together they
produce 66% of the world's meat.
Disturbingly, these animals know misery and torture throughout their
lives. They are caged, chained, mutilated, denied their instincts,
separated from their families, forced to grow unnaturally and finally
slaughtered.
The widespread of factory farming in developing countries is of
serious concern and two UK organizations, the Food Animal Initiative and
the World Society for the Protection of Animals have launched an
initiative that encourages welfare-friendly farming practices.

The appalling numbers of animals raised for food and the immense
suffering there are subjected to should be of great concern for
everyone. We are called to be compassionate and merciful and raising
animals for food is neither. The transition to a plant-based diet could
alleviate the suffering of billion of God’s animals, restore the
environment and help as live healthier lives.
