Pork producer loses lawsuit
Premium Standard Farms Inc., second largest pork producer in the US
with headquarters in Kansas City, has lost a lawsuit over the stench
their hog farms produce. On September 22nd, each of the three families
involved were awarded $750,000 and an estate; and there are more than 50
such cases still pending. According to one plaintiff, the company’s
actions in addressing the smell of waste from 350,000 pigs on 1,300
acres could be summarized as, “I see nothing, I smell nothing, and we do
nothing.”

While the waste of such factory farms poses a serious threat to our
health and the environment, the unimaginable pain, stress and terror
hogs suffer should be of primary concern. These are God’s creatures who
have instincts and needs; who experience joy and sorrow; and whose
God-given rights are totally ignored.
