More on fish depletion
If we were good stewards of God’s creation, the fish in the sea -in
this case tuna- would not be exploited to the verge of risking their
existence in certain parts of the world. Greenpeace, the World Wildlife
Fund (WWF) and other environmental groups have warned authorities that
bluefin tuna catches in the Mediterranean had slumped 80 percent
compared with a year ago. They have urged a moratorium in both the
Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic since illegal fishing is suspected.
Greenpeace’s ship, the Rainbow Warrior II, tried to enter the port of
Marseille as part of their campaign but was blocked by 25 tuna fishing
boats. Fisherman also closed the port and threatened to close the oil
terminal at Fos-sur-Mer. Greenpeace agreed to leave and its spokesman
Yannick Jadot said, "We hope to end the tension and calm things down."
