Vegetarians on the news
At the 2006 rainbow gathering, between 10,000 and 15,000 people
gathered at Main Meadow last Tuesday. The crowd of individuals from all
walks of life (Rainbow, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian,
Jewish, Wiccan, Rastafarian, members of the Baha'i faith, self-guided
spiritual beings and many with atheistic perspectives) comprise what
seems to be the largest non-organization of non-members in the world.
They have no leaders, and no organization.
The Rainbow Family focuses on intentional community building,
non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. They believe that Peace and
Love are a great thing, and there isn't enough of that in this world. At
this year’s gathering, the CVA was present. "We're trying to spread
awareness about honoring God's creation and vegetarianism," said Rick
Hershey, who was in charge of the Christian Vegetarian Association booth
and is the president of the St. Louis Vegetarian Society.
