Demand for “Humanely Raised” Hogs on the Rise
People are waking up
to the cruel reality of modern animal agriculture and the demand for
“humanely” raised pigs is rising.

I think
that the term “humane” is very misleading. “Less abused” is probably a
better choice. Factory farms have set the bar so incredibly low that
any improvement on the welfare of these animals is termed “humane”,
and many people believe in this because deep down they don’t want to
hurt God’s animals so they gravitate toward choices that seem to cause
less or no suffering.
However, it’s important to note that even in
the best farms God’s animals raised for food still suffer painful
mutilations; still their babies, milk or eggs are stolen from them;
and still every one of them faces the same fate: an early death that
often involves much pain and terror.
2. Famous Quote
"If our only motivation for not eating animal
foods is our own health, it’s easy to “cheat” a little here and there
and pretty soon go back to eating them again. When our motivation is
based on compassion, it is deep and lasting, because we understand
that our actions have direct consequences on others who are
vulnerable."
~ Dr. Will Tuttle
3. A Tragedy Unseen by Most
An egg farm in La Grange, Wisconsin was consumed by fire Friday night
killing nearly 300,000 birds. Such an horrific event was covered by
the news as expected but disturbingly reporters stated that there were
no reports of any injuries.

300,000 Chickens Burned Alive
How low have we fallen when
300,000 sentient beings don’t count as victims? What happened in this
egg farm is a real tragedy, but I think even worse is the fact that
humans continue to exploit God’s animals mercilessly considering these
creatures simple commodities.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) 1
Corinthians 13:4-13
“Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous
or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its
own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at
wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all
things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends; as for
prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as
for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and
our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect
will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought
like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up
childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to
face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I
have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.”
May we show this kind of love
to all of God’s creatures!
5. Bird Brain, Super Brain
Chickens are one of the most abused animals on Earth, and most
people’s perception of them is really far from the truth. According to
abundant scientific evidence chickens are “capable of mathematical
reasoning and logic, including numeracy, self-control, and even basic
structural engineering. These traits are not seen in children until
the age of four.” Moreover, scientists says that chickens can be
deceptive and cunning, with communication skills much like primates.

Bird Brain Became A Compliment
It only makes sense that humans
choose to look at chickens in a way that allows them to exploit them
without any mercy. People put them down and refer to them as dumb,
emotionless and even dirty. How else could people victimize them
without guilt?
History teaches us that we acted the same way in
order to victimize other humans. These victims didn’t “talk like us,
look like us, think like us and they were better off serving a
purpose. We even fed them and gave them shelter.” Sounds familiar?
Let’s learn from our past mistakes. God’s Creativity shines when we
allow all His/Her creatures to exercise their God-given instincts,
needs and emotions. Nothing better than rejoicing in the magnificent
diversity of life while living in harmony.
