1. God’s Farmed Animals Are Laden With Antibiotics
Last
year, about 80 percent of all reported antibiotic sales (30 million
pounds) were fed to livestock as standard procedure in order for these
animals to survive the conditions in factory farms and to make them
grow faster than nature intends. David A. Kessler, commissioner of the
Food and Drug Administration from 1990 to 1997, explains that this
irresponsible use of antibiotics is the leading cause of bacterial
resistance to antibiotics.

The fact that health and
government officials are ignoring the overuse of antibiotics in God's
farmed animals is simply appalling. We are creating the perfect
environment for an epidemic that we might not be able to stop, unless
we wake up to the fact that God's animals are not commodities to be
used and abused, but rather sentient beings who share the Earth with
us.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
“The American
fast food diet and the meat eating habits of the wealthy around the
world support a world food system that diverts food resources from the
hungry. A diet higher in whole grains and legumes and lower in beef
and other meat is not just healthier for ourselves but also
contributes to changing the world system that feeds some people and
leaves others hungry.”
~ Dr. Walden Bello, author, academic,
and political analyst
3. Another Culprit in Meat that
Leads to Heart Disease
Saturated fat and cholesterol in meat
don’t seem to be the only culprits contributing to heart disease.
Scientists have found that a substance produced by bacteria in the
intestines after people eat red meat is quickly converted by the liver
into another chemical called TMAO that gets into the blood and
increases the risk of heart disease. Interestingly, scientists found
that vegans did not show a burst of TMAO in their blood after they ate
steak.

Wouldn’t it make much more sense to encourage people to avoid eating
meat than to spend millions of dollars, time, energy, resources and
even suffering of animals in the experimentation process, in the quest
to find an antibiotic that would kill the bacteria that produces the
precursor of TMAO? Transitioning to a plant-based diet heals all of
God’s Creation.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV)
Matthew 15:34-37
And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves
have you?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish." And commanding
the crowd to sit down on the ground, he took the seven loaves and the
fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the
disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate
and were satisfied; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken
pieces left over."
Multiplying fish who are already dead to
feed to people who have no objection to eating fish is an act of
compassion that has no adverse impact on the fish. This story does not
depict Jesus killing any animals, but rather miraculously feeding
several thousand people. The people were hungry, and Jesus had
compassion for them. Again, fishing 2,000 years ago was a far cry from
the driftnets, long-lines, and aquaculture farms of today, which are
environmentally destructive and treat fish as though they were pieces
of seaweed rather than God’s creatures.
5. Get Inspired!
Read this amazing and inspiring compilation of testimonies by
people who have been living vegan for decades. Featured are prominent
activists in the movement, the youngest alpine ski racer in Olympic
history at the age of 14, a medical doctor, PhDs, a sociologist, an
animal-rights lawyer, people raised vegan since birth, and many more!

6. This Week’s Video
Watch this excellent CNN
segment featuring Paul Shapiro (HSUS) and a representative of the
Animal Agriculture Alliance discussing Ag-gag bills. Paul Shapiro did
a fantastic job at exposing the heinous treatment of animals in
factory farms and slaughterhouses!
