1. Luxury Hotel for Cows???

There are plans in the U.K. to build an intensive dairy farm with 8,000 cows that will run 23 hours a day, milking each cow three times every day. To most people who know a little about CAFO's (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) more commonly known as factory farms, this new dairy farm seems just like one. However, Peter Willes of Nocton Dairies says it's more like a luxury hotel for cows since it would have comfy sand floors, a foot-trimming center and an opening to allow real air inside. Fortunately, out of the 161 people who attended an exhibition meant to "win round the project's critics” 153 of the visitors weren't convinced and only 8 left the exhibition won over by the plans. Already animal advocacy groups are fighting this proposal. To read the full article search online for Dairy Factory Farm of Luxury Hotel for Cows?

It is true that no matter how a salve is treated it will continue being a slave. Dairy cows are enslaved for their milk, meat and skin; and the idea of a "humane" dairy factory farm is incoherent. As stewards of God's animals we should show them compassion, mercy and justice, none of which exist while we are exploiting them.

2. This Week’s Famous Quote

"To close your eyes will not ease another's pain."

~ Chinese Proverb

3. Whale Watching and Whaling Lessons

Not surprisingly, the whale hunting industry - lacking integrity - is getting involved in the whale watching tourism industry. They plan to offer "whale watching with whale hunters" where tourists will get to bond with real whale hunters and taste whale meat while whale watching on a boat that's actually used for slaughtering whales. It should be obvious to Christians that whale watching is a marvelous experience that involves awe and reverence to whales, God's creations. Whale watching should have no part in supporting an industry that inflicts tremendous suffering to these animals. Consistency between Faith and works is a key part in becoming good stewards of God's Creation.

4. This Week’s Bible Verse

(RSV) 1 Peter 3:8

Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love of the brethren, a tender heart and a humble mind.

We are called to love all of God's Creation showing compassion and love, thus reflecting God's essence in us.

5. Factory Farming Awareness

Due to the incessant work of animal advocates and environmental groups, factory farming is being exposed more every day. Factory farms, intensively confining farmed animals and creating environmental chaos are becoming targets of consumers, who refuse to support them. Companies are purchasing cage-free eggs and people are voicing their concern for animals and the environment. There has been a steady opposition to factory farming in the last few years that could bring monumental change to the lives of God’s farmed animals. Already, small steps like purchasing cage-free eggs rather than eggs from battery-cages are making a difference. As long as stewards of God’s Creation, humans, realize that showing compassion and mercy to God’s animals is part of our sacred task, we are able to actively participate in the reconciliation of God’s Creation.

6. This Week’s Video: The Emotional World of Farm Animals

The Emotional World of Farm Animals is a touching documentary for viewers of all ages. It deals with the rich emotional lives of animals raised for food.
