1. Animal Compassion: Earlier this month, the
case 2 whales off the coast of New Zealand who struggled to survive
after being stranded seemed to reach a fatal end when volunteers, after
many efforts, couldn't get them to return to the open waters.
Surprisingly, Moko the dolphin, a regular visitor to the coast of Mahia
on the east Coast of New Zealand's North Island, came right up to the
whales before leading them out to sea. Witnesses said, "Quite clearly
the attitude of the whales changed when the dolphin arrived on the
scene. They responded virtually straight away,"... "The dolphin managed
in a couple of minutes what we had failed to do in an hour and a half."

2. "In fact, if one person is unkind to an
animal it is considered to be cruelty, but where a lot of people are
unkind to animals, especially in the name of commerce, the cruelty is
condoned and, once large sums of money are at stake, will be defended to
the last by otherwise intelligent people." ~ Ruth Harrison, author of
Animal Machines.
3. Common Legal Animal Abuses Reviews by New
Jersey Court: Last week, a coalition of animal advocacy groups was
heard by the New Jersey Supreme Court. These groups' goal is to end what
they consider egregious factory farm abuses permissible by the state
Department of Agriculture, such as confining pregnant pigs for months at
a time in gestation crates, tethering and restrictively confining calves
raised for veal until they are sent to slaughter and mutilations without
anesthesia including castration, de-beaking, de-toeing and tail docking.
A ruling from the Supreme Court is expected to be handed down in about
one to two months.

4. (RSV) 1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, he
is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness"
Although we live in a world ruled by earthly desires that very often
lead us away from God' will, we can always ask God for forgiveness and
start again, trying to the best of our abilities and by God's grace, to
reflect God's love and walk in the path of obedience.
5. Political Party for the Animals: An
unprecedented effort to have animals represented in the political arena
has led to the formation of a Dutch political party, the Party for the
Animals, whose highest priority is animal welfare and the respectful
treatment of animals. In the Netherlands they are represented in the
House of Representatives, the Senate and the Provincial States. The
Party for the Animals acts as a ‘pacemaker’ in the parliament by
encouraging the other political parties to move faster when it comes to
animal welfare.

Hopefully this effort will encourage other countries to follow their
lead in order to have a political party that would help speed up the
passing of animal welfare laws in order to decrease the suffering of
God’s animals and help citizens to become good stewards of God’s
Creation.
6. Worker Sentenced for Abusing Cows: One of
the workers shown in the undercover video shot by the Humane Society of
the United States (HSUS) at a Southern California slaughterhouse has
been sentenced to six months in jail. Rafael Sanchez Herrera pleaded
guilty to three misdemeanor counts of illegal movement of non-ambulatory
animals, including dragging sick cows with metal chains and forklifts,
shocking them with electric prods and shooting streams of water in their
noses and faces.

Animal cruelty needs to be punished by law as it happened in this
case. Farmed animals are at the mercy of humans and have no means to
defend themselves or speak up to avoid victimization. As Christians, we
are called to show mercy and love to all Creation, and in this way
participate in bringing peace and harmony to Earth.
