New Strain of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv)
Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv), a very virulent disease that spreads from pig to pig via infected feces, has caused havoc in the pig industry killing about 10 percent of the U.S. pig population since 2013. Now, a new strain of this virus, seemingly as virulent as the original one, has been identified by scientists who believe it has mutated to outpace any immunity pigs developed to the first strain.

Factory farms are filthy. Pigs are confined without being able to touch soil, or feel the sunlight, or breath fresh air, or play, or mate. These conditions allow viruses and bacteria to rotate among the animals and mutate, which can lead to deadly epidemics in animals and humans.
Factory farms go against nature and against our inner-most values. Why keep doing what’s obviously not working and is also causing unimaginable misery? Eating plant-based helps us align our choices with our values; and it helps us work with nature, not against it.
