tDan L. Gralian, President of the Nevada Cattlemen's Association, shares
his outrage about the “downer” cows being abused by employees of the four
slaughterhouses under investigation thanks to the Humane Society of the
United States (HSUS). He says that people in the cattle industry need to
take a look at their own operations and see what they may need to do to
improve their livestock handling facilities. Above all, Gralian believes
that crippled and sick cows need to be euthanized humanely and never loaded
into a truck to be slaughtered.
While it is surprising that the President of the Nevada Cattlemen's
Association was unaware of the extent of abuse of cattle, especially downer
cows, throughout so many decades already, it is nevertheless encouraging to
see that he does not advocate the abuse that so many others intentionally
ignore and profit from.
