Gourmets in Chicago can once again order foie gras after the city council
repealed a two-year restaurant ban. Supporters of the ban point to the
cruelty involved in producing it, which involves force-feeding geese and
ducks under extreme confinement in order to enlarge their livers.
It is unfortunate to hear that small steps taken toward alleviating the
suffering of God’s animals are once again revoked. The suffering inflicted
on ducks and geese in order to produce foie gras is undeniable and
inexcusable. Since the law doesn’t prevent such cruelty it is up to the
consumer not to support such industry.
