1. Educated Choices Program - Last Call

This is the last call to support the Kickstarter campaign for the Educated Choices Program. ECP uses effective, impactful Internet videos to encourage young people to adopt a plant-based diet. Video topics include animal welfare, health, and environmental protectionism. Young people are often open to new ideas, and a young person who adopts a plant-based diet can, over their lifetimes, spare many animals from the cruelties of modern animal agribusiness.

I (Steve Kaufman) am Chair of ECP and I donate to this valuable organization.

Check out the Kickstarter campaign https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/186335714/sea-the-impact and also visit www.ecprogram.org to learn about ECP's important work.

2. Codes of Conduct, Continued - Liberal vs. Conservative

The previous essay comparing liberal and conservative views of human nature revealed a common denominator: both ultimately want what is best for people. Although their differing views about human nature often lead to different policy preferences, their underlying goals are similar.

One key difference is that conservatives tend to place greater emphasis on honor and tradition than liberals. This reflects the belief that time-honored principles help sustain peaceful, productive communities. From this perspective, abandoning such principles carries risks, and radical policies often produce unintended and harmful consequences.

Liberals and conservatives can also find common ground on animal issues. Both tend to view nonhuman animals as innocent victims of human greed. Although animals may harm one another or even humans, they do so out of necessity or instinct, not malicious intent. By contrast, liberals may feel justified in harming capitalists they see as exploitative, while conservatives may believe that those who are criminally minded or perceived as lazy deserve the harsh treatment they receive.

Both views, I suggest, are rooted in the scapegoating mechanism. I will elaborate on this idea in the next essay and explain how Christianity can help reconcile liberal and conservative worldviews.
