1. Activist Feedback

Nicole, who tabled for the Vegetarian Club at Wheaton College, writes:

We set up a sampling table with vegan cookies, cheese, chocolate soy milk, and protein powder. We displayed your literature at the front of the booth.

I'd estimate we had 200-300 people stop by!

Though very few people took the literature, a significant number read through it at the table. A lot of people shared that they were on a path toward vegetarianism/veganism, and that the information provided at the booth was helpful to them.

Thank you so much for sending us the pamphlets! We will keep them to display at future Vegetarian Club events.

In Christ,
Nicole

2. The June Issue of “The Peaceable Table” Is Now Online

Contents include:

  • The Glimpse of the Peaceable Kingdom shows a large dog cuddling a small goat and gazing soulfully at the camera, as though asking why anyone would think this remarkable.
  • Carl Sagan reflects in the Unset Gem on the fact that humans systematically mistreat animals, pretending that animals have nofeelings, and claiming that humans are the only ones who can feel.
  • Friend Theodore Schmidkonz asks again a question about farmed animal and human diet that has been on his mind since he was a child – see Letters.
  • The June Pioneer is prison reformer John Howard, an 18th century vegetarian who for many years braved the taboo-based fears of entering the filthy prisons of his day to expose their horrors to the public.
  • One of the Reviews covers the new book Even Vegans Die by Carol J. Adams, Patti Breitman, and Virginia Messina. The authors remind us that the protection from major chronic diseases among vegans is a statistical matter, not a guarantee; they encourage their readers to sensitivity and compassion when someone in our circles suffers from one or another of these disorders.
  • The "Hummus Vegan Lasagna" in our Recipe column is so good that once you bite into it, you will find it very hard to stop.
