Raising animals for food is inherently cruel. Most farm animals suffer mutilations, and extreme confinement; even in the best farms animals don’t escape an early death. This is why more and more people are demanding new foods that don’t involve pain and suffering, and companies are delivering. We now how an impressive array of plant-based milks and cheeses, and plant-based meats.
However, some people have argued that these products don’t taste the same as their animal-based counterparts. The response to them is culture-meat. Memphis Meats, a startup company, revealed its plans to produce beef and pork using cell cultures, which they eventually plan to debut at several Memphis-area barbecue restaurants.
