Following in the footsteps of Florida, Arizona and California, Farm
Sanctuary has joined with HSUS and citizens in Washington State to launch an
initiative effort to prevent the exploitation of egg-laying hens.
Approximately 280 million hens live in battery cages so small that each bird
is given less space than an 8 ½ by 11 inch sheet of paper. As a result,
these animals can barely move and are unable to engage in basic natural
behaviors, for which they suffer both physical and psychological disorders.
Little by little there have been some improvements in the way God’s farmed
animals are treated. Hopefully, the people in Washington State will realize
that egg-laying hens suffer tremendously for the sake of profit and taste of
those who support this industry. Even better, if more people decided to
avoid egg consumption for ethical, health and/or environmental reasons, much
suffering would be reduced in God’s Creation.
