Controversial Buffalo Hunt Began

October 2007: This month, hunters began tracking and killing buffalo on the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, causing controversy among the public opinion.

The hunt is supposed to reduce the herd from 1,200 to 500 over the next five years, and according to animal advocate groups, hunting these animals cannot be considered a sport since they are so accustomed to humans. "Hunting these bison is like hunting parked cars," said Jonathan Lovvorn, a vice president of the US Humane Society and attorney with the Fund for Animals.
