Teaching children about nutrition
Food is Elementary is a groundbreaking curriculum that teaches
students about nutrition though hands-on positive experiences. The Food
Studies Institute recognizes that the major health problems in the US
are directly related to the typical American diet. Young children are
suffering from diseases that once were seen mainly in adults, such as
diabetes, obesity and heart disease.
Surprisingly, the youth of today are the first generation predicted
to have a lower life expectancy than their parents; and the fact that
the U.S. spends more on health care than any other industrialized
country has raised the flag. The Food Studies Institute offers a
solution and that is to teach children healthy eating habits in
classrooms by educating them about the relationship between food and
health, providing them with food preparations skills through hands-on
interactive experiences, and introducing plant-based entrees at their
schools.
