Possible Bird Flu Pandemic Bad for the Economy
The World Bank is warning world leaders about a possible H5N1bird-flu
pandemic and its possible consequences to humanity. In a worst-case
scenario, a flu pandemic could kill many millions of people, cost
trillion of dollars, and cut global gross domestic product (GDP) leading
to a major global recession. Even though the H5N1 bird flu virus has
killed hundreds of people and caused billions of dollars in losses, a
possible massive outbreak among humans would follow the emergence of a
new strain of influenza to which almost no one would have natural
immunity, leading to a death toll of up 180 million people, experts say.

face a possible bird flu pandemic that could kill hundreds of millions
of people and affect the world's economy to a great extent. The
