Three species of shark endangered
Scientists have added three species
of deep sea sharks to the endangered list of animals. Some sharks
are caught for the high value of their fins for human consumption or
taken unintentionally in high seas during swordfish and tuna
fishing.
Sarah Fowler of the World
Conservation Union's (IUCN) Shark Specialist Group said, "This week,
leading shark scientists from around the world highlighted the
vulnerability of these species to overfishing and concluded that
several species are now threatened with extinction on a global
scale."
Although
overfishing is one of the most destructive human activities, it
largely goes underestimated by most people. At the rate aquatic
animals are caught and killed for human consumption, many more of
God’s animals will forever disappear from rivers and oceans, while
others will continue to be pushed to the verge of extinction. How
sad it is that we are destroying God’s Creation!
