1. The Deceiving and Cruel 4-H Programs

What Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H claim to promote is flawed and tragic. They promise a “supervised agricultural experience” and a “youth livestock program” where children raise a farm animal, bond with her but end up selling her for slaughter. Children’s hearts are broken and in the process they are also hardened.

2. This Week’s Famous Quote

I became a vegetarian after realizing that animals feel afraid, cold, hungry and unhappy like we do. I feel very deeply about vegetarianism and the animal kingdom. It was my dog Boycott who led me to question the right of humans to eat other sentient beings.
~ Cesar Chavez

3. How to Be an Effective Vegan Advocate

Read this information-packed interview with Dr. Hodson writes for Psychology Today, where he explains how vegans can be effective in their advocacy. He suggests to always keep the animals in mind, and to relate to people with dignity and respect, among other tips you can read here.

4. Eating Beef Kills Horses

Tragically, a Whole Foods Market beef supplier and other cattle ranchers are responsible for the removal of over 1,000 horses from their congressionally-designated habitat to make room for 1,700 cows. Even though wild horses are federally protected from being hunted, trapped, killed or harassed, they were chased, trapped and torn apart from their families using low-flight helicopters. In the process, many terrified horses died and their land now is occupied by “grass-fed” cows.

5. "That one was definitely alive": An undercover video at one of the nation's biggest pork processors

A recent undercover video shot inside one of the largest pork processors in the U.S. has started a government investigation about the unspeakable cruelty pigs suffer and the lack of surveillance in this industry. The 97-minute unedited video shows pigs being dragged across the floor, beaten with paddles, and sick to the point of immobility. Many are also shown writhing in apparent pain while bleeding out.
