1. Who is in a Burger?

This Washington Post article exposes the disturbing fact that in a single hamburger there’s muscle tissue and fiber from a hundred cows or more! This single point exposes the mass production and killing system that commodifies farm animals to the point that they are seen as simple objects, not even living beings.

Please visit I tried to figure out how many cows are in a single hamburger. It was really hard.

Hamburgers are a symbol of American food and culture. Do we really want something involving pain, fear, death, environmental devastation and unhealthy substances to represent our culture? The question should not be “What’s in a burger? But “Who’s in a burger”?

2. This Week’s Famous Quote

We have not begun to scratch the surface of understanding animals. How can we know what it is to swim as whales, at home in the ocean depths and migrating thousands of miles, speaking in underwater songs and breathing together in conscious harmony, or to fly in a flock of sandpipers, whirling in an effortless synchronicity, fifty birds as one, or to burrow as prairie dogs, creating complex underground communities with virtually endless chambers, passageways, and interactions?
~ Dr. Will Tuttle, The World Peace Diet

3. Fishing is Dirty and Violent Work

Read this fascinating --and very disturbing-- interview to a fisherman and a fisherwoman who share what’s like to catch fish and kill them: “You’ll just be covered in blood from head to toe…”, “You’ll see the line jumping, so you’ll bring the fish close and you’ll conk it on the head and gaff it and bring it on the boat…”, “So you just essentially stab it in the gills, and then put it in the hold. Sometimes the deck will just be filled with chums, because you’re pulling them and you haven’t put them in the hold yet, and they’re all flipping everywhere, bleeding everywhere…”, “I mean, it’s beautiful, but it’s dirty work.”

Please visit These first-time fishermen know all the best (and worst) parts of fishing.

Fishing is a violent act that numbs our compassion and toughens our hearts. Why pay others to do the dirty job that we wouldn’t do? Replacing fish with plant-based foods is easy and non-violent.

4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Matthew 7:12

So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

The Golden Rule, summarizes how a Christ-like life should be lived out: showing compassion, mercy, love and justice toward all of God's Creation!

5. Dairy Is Cruel

Most people believe consuming dairy doesn’t harm cows. However, the reality is that consuming dairy supports the relentless exploitation of cows and their babies. Modern dairy farms impregnate cows artificially year after year; and when the baby is born is torn away from the mother causing much pain to both. We need only to observe the incredible bond between cows and their calves, and we need only to hear the desperate cries that go on for days after being separated. Truthfully, if one is against sexual assault and stealing babies then one needs to stop consuming dairy.

6. This Week’s Video: Tyson Caught Torturing Chickens, Again

Another undercover investigation—the third in three months—at a Tyson Foods facility has exposed sickening cruelty to chickens used for meat.
