A change of heart is always possible! Once we have the awareness to recognize that God’s farm animals are our fellow beings who, like us, don’t want to be exploited, we see our sphere of compassion widening naturally to include them.

2. This Week’s Famous Quote

“Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”
—Albert Schweitzer, French philosopher, physician, and musician (Nobel 1952)

3. Love Is More Effective than Anger

Tobias Leenaert writes a very insightful article about animal advocacy and the anger that permeates in our movement due to the tremendous suffering humanity causes to animals unnecessarily. Leenaert is right that anger is one sign of being aware; however, he also rightly states that anger alienates people and turns them away instead of bringing them closer to embracing our beliefs of compassion to all creatures. He emphasized that instead of showing anger, we should show optimism, openness, tolerance, forgiveness, understanding and love, which are qualities that attract people. In short, we want animal liberation as soon as possible, and “What will bring that day closer, is not our anger, but our love,” says Leenaert.

4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Galatians 3:2

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

We all come from the same source and we all share the essence of life. Species, gender, religion, race or ethnicity should not be used to define the boundaries of compassion. After all, this is the faith of Christ.
