1. James Cameron on the Destructiveness of the Animal Agriculture Industry

Movie director James Cameron says it well: “You can’t be an environmentalist, you can’t be an ocean steward, without truly walking the walk... And you can’t walk the walk in the world of the future, the world ahead of us, the world of our children, not eating a plant-based diet.” The animal agriculture industry pollutes the Earth, uses resources unsustainably and contributes greatly to global warming.

Indeed, we cannot call ourselves stewards of God's Creation if we support the animal agriculture industry that has caused and continuous to cause so much devastation on Earth. Transitioning to a plant-based diet is the most effective and practical solution to bring healing and restoration on Earth.

2. This Week’s Famous Quote

Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.

- Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

3. Global Warming is a Real Threat

A new study published this month in IOP Publishing's journal Environmental Research Letters concludes that the effects of global warming will be felt for thousands of years as far as the rising of sea levels goes. Professor Huybrechts, co-author of the study, said that "Mankind should limit the concentration of greenhouse gases at the lowest possible level as soon as possible. The only realistic option is a drastic reduction of the emissions. The lower the ultimate warming will be, the less severe the ultimate consequences will be."

It's imperative we curb the emissions of green-house gases or the generations to come will pay greatly for our irresponsibility. Can we really call ourselves good stewards of God's Creation when we ignore the red flags that are so evident? I don't think so.

4. This Week’s Bible Verse

(RSV) Matt. 25:35, 40

For I was hungry and you gave me food.… [A]s you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.

Sadly, while tens of millions of people die annually from starvation-related causes and close to a billion suffer from malnutrition, more than 30% of the world’s harvested grain is fed to animals being raised for slaughter; in the United States, the figure is around 70%. We choose to ignore the plight of the poor and the hungry around the world if we consume animal products.

5. Global Warming Increases Poverty Worldwide

Science is clear: if we don’t curb greenhouse gas emissions global warming is going to cause much hardship globally. One of the catastrophic effects of global warming is the increase in poverty worldwide, especially in those poor countries were poverty rates already are very high. Climate change is causing extreme heat waves, declining global food stocks, loss of ecosystems and biodiversity, life-threatening sea level rise and water shortages.  Jim Yong Kim, World Bank President states, “We will never end poverty if we don’t tackle climate change. It is one of the single biggest challenges to social justice today.”
